Ronald A. Grimes, 90, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, peacefully passed away on Tuesday morning, December 17, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society—Luther Manor.

Ronald was born on July 5, 1934, to Henry and Marjorie (Johnson) Grimes in Paulding, Ohio. He attended public school and graduated from Van Wert High School in Van Wert, Ohio, in 1952.

In January 1957, Ronald enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. On December 14, 1958, he married Carol A. Fjellestad in Astoria, South Dakota. Following his honorable discharge in January 1959, the couple moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Ronald worked as a water reclamation operator at the City of Sioux Falls Water Reclamation Facility for nearly 34 years before retiring in 1996. He cherished family trips, and in retirement, he enjoyed exploring the United States with Carol in their motorhome. Ronald loved being a grandpa and enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sports events and school activities. He was also passionate about gems and rocks and enjoyed hunting for them.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. He was involved with the Sioux Empire Gem and Mineral Society and the Waste Water Association in Pierre for 30 years.

Ronald is survived by his children, Jody (Wayne) Fleischhacker, Jon (Carolyn) Grimes, and Steve (Lori) Grimes, all of Sioux Falls; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Marjorie Grimes; his beloved wife of 56 years, Carol Grimes; brothers Robert and Russell Grimes; and sisters Rita Langdon and Ramona Shaffer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a visitation beginning one hour prior, on Monday, December 23, 2024, at Miller Funeral Home—downtown, 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. The interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls.
