Ronald Lewis Hood, 80, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Friday, June 19, 2026, at the Sioux Falls VA Hospice Cottage.

Ron was born in St. Louis, MO, on April 25th 1946, to William and Elvira (Anderson) Hood. During Ron's youth, their family moved to South Dakota. Ron graduated from Hartford High School.

Ron served in the US Army during the Vietnam War '68-'69.

Ron had various jobs after his discharge. Ron retired from the US Post Office with 23 years of service.

Ron married Susan Smith on July 7th 2007. They loved each other so deeply. More than any words could describe. They were married at his brother Bill's and Karen's farm at their huge, beautiful flower garden. Ron and Sue's marriage was truly a match made in heaven.

Ron enjoyed doing anything involving Sue, or anything to do with their families. When you've reached Ron's age, believe me, you have a lot of family. Some sports that Ron enjoyed were car races, football (Vikings), baseball, and rodeo.

Ron loved his Lord and Savior, Sue, their families, and his Country. Ron was a proud Patriot.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elvira; stepdad Ed Wiese; brother Gary Hood; sister Shirley Smith; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Hood.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his children, Rhonda Phillips of St. Paul, MN, Robby Phillips of Garner, IA, Brent Spielmann of Sioux Falls, and Jay Spielmann of Sioux Falls; his brothers, Bill (Karen) Hood of Sioux Falls, Don Hood of Loveland CO, Joel Wiese of Davis, SD, and Jim (Schelley) Wiese of Davis, SD; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Ron's family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the love, kindness, and support you have shown during this difficult time.

A visitation, with family present to greet friends, will be held from 4:00 - 5:30 PM on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown (507 S Main Ave) in Sioux Falls, SD. A memorial service will follow at 5:30 PM at the same location. Interment will take place at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
