Robert Scott Barr, III, "Scott," passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, following an automobile accident. He was 60.

A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57108. The family will be present to greet friends from 5:00pm - 7:00pm Monday, April 28, at the Southside Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 6:00pm.

My beautiful beloved husband, Scott, passed away April 21st, 2025. My husband was born on August 19th, 1964, in Akron, Iowa, to JoAnn Barr. His childhood was spent in Hawarden, Iowa. He was imaginative and creative in his childhood activities. Maybe a little too creative– as a child, he made a cape to parachute off a bridge. Fortunately, when he got to the bridge, he decided against it. Scott had two father figures, one was his uncle Gene who taught him hard work and respect, and the other was Virgil McKee who taught him how to fish, which he always loved to do, amongst other mechanic endeavors. His imagination developed into the creativity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness that he would possess throughout his life.

Scott grew up around family members that were mechanics, and auto body technicians, which taught him the basics. His first job was working on lawn mowers. During his teen years, he bought his first car, a 1962 Mercury Meteor, to rebuild, which was his first foray into auto body work. He went to high school in Freeman, South Dakota, and spent his senior year in Emery, South Dakota. Whenever we drove through those towns, he'd reminisce on the fun and adventures he had in his teenage years.

My husband was a mechanic, automotive technician, sales route driver, welder, wind turbine mechanic, carpenter, and a shop foreman- a "jack of all trades". Some of his achievements include the Matheson "Driver of the Year North Central" award and winning Best of Show at Hot Harley Nights for the motorcycle he restored. Scott also restored cars, and due to the quality and talent of his work, people sought him out to restore their own cars. Scott was meticulous, precise, and a perfectionist in his craft. My husband also did carpentry work. I gave him free reign to remodel our house, and my mom's house. And as we expected, the quality was excellent, and he was very proud of his work.

Scott was a good samaritan. He was kind and generous with his time- helping out neighbors, friends, and coworkers. In our family, my husband was our rock. He was a wonderful father to our sons, Jordan and Geoffrey, who he guided, taught, and advised. Many family members relied on him for his support.

But, my husband also had a fun side, as we lovingly call it- being a goofball. He loved to hear, tell, and play jokes. He had such a good sense of humor that no one was immune to it.

When we as a family went camping, Scott was an instructor to our boys, showing them different things in nature and teaching them how to fish and snorkel. We made a lot of wonderful memories on our camping trips.

My husband loved his grandchildren, Vivianna, Isabel, and Theodore. He liked to play with and tease them, and show them how things worked, just like he did with his sons. They adored their grandpa and had a special bond with them.

Scott had a beautiful soul. He was so loved. And he will be missed dearly by me (his wife, Sharie), his sons, Jordan (Kim), Geoffrey (Jackie), grandchildren Vivianna, Isabel, and Theodore, his mother JoAnn, his sister Annette (Tony), mother-in-law Faye, sister-in-law Julie (Kevin), and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
