Obituary

Shirley Jean (Seefeldt) Drobny, 87, of rural Humboldt,  SD passed away on Sunday, January 25th after a brief illness at Sanford Medical Center surrounded by her children, Mary, Daniel and Laura.

Memorial Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Friday, January 30 at Miller Funeral Home Hartford Chapel, 600 S. Western Ave., Hartford, SD with private family burial at Humboldt Cemetery.

Shirley Jean Seefeldt was born August 26, 1938 in Milbank, SD.  Shirley graduated from high school in 1956.  She grew up during the Depression and WWII.

On July 8, 1962, she married Severin John Drobny at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Nassau, Minnesota.

Shirley began teaching when only a two year certificate was required.  She taught in rural schools near Milbank, Appleton, MN and Sioux Falls.  In 1966 she quit working to begin raising her family.  She gave birth to her three children: Mary Kay in 1966, Daniel John 1967, and Laura Lynn 1970.  After raising her family, she went back to school and obtained her Bachelor's Degree from Augustana College in 1981.  She taught elementary school in the West Central School District for 40+ years.  After retiring she continued to substitute teach at local schools.

Shirley enjoyed gardening, quilting, reading, scrapbooking, playing games on her Kindle, occasional bus trips to the casino, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her children Mary (Tracy) Sterling of Sioux Falls, SD, Daniel John Drobny (Athena) of Red Lodge, MT, and Laura Drobny of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren Rachel and Katelyn Sterling; Lauren, Alexandra and Adrianna Buss; and Cord Prunty; sisters-in-law Kathy Seefeldt of Woodbridge, VA, Gayle Seefeldt of Willmar, MN, and Janet Seefeldt of Sioux Falls, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Alice, brothers Robert, Herbert and Roger, sister Viola, daughter-in-law Athena, and husband Severin John.
