Shirley Jean Gottschalk, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at her home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  Private services will be held.

Shirley Jean Schmidt was born on February 8, 1944 to Henry and Selma (Nielsen) Schmidt in McCook County, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Montrose and attended Montrose High School. After school, Shirley moved to Sioux Falls.

Shirley was joined in marriage to Ronald L. Gottschalk on December 28, 1963 in Sioux Falls. Shirley was a homemaker for her children, Scott and Kristina. She later began working at Raven Industries, where she worked for 30 years before retiring in 2010. Shirley was crafty and artistic and enjoyed sewing, baking, and tending to flowers. She especially loved spending time with grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Ronald Gottschalk; her children, Scott Gottschalk and Kristina Gottschalk; her sister, Bonnie (Glen) Schmitz; and her grandchildren, Nicholas Gottschalk and Jacob Havermann, all of Sioux Falls, SD. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Selma Schmidt; and her sister, Sharon Schmidt.
