Shirley grew up near Hull, Iowa, on a farm. She was the youngest of 6 children with 5 older brothers. Shirley met Bill Zornig at the Rock Rapids roller rink when she was 16. That courtship continued and grew after her high school graduation. Shirley worked and went to a 2-year business school in Sioux City, Iowa.

Shirley and Bill married in 1954 and lived on the family farm between Lester and Rock Rapids, Iowa until 1996. They had two daughters – Lori and Kathy. Lori lives in Sioux Falls, and Kathy lives west of town a few miles. During Bill and Shirley's married life, she enjoyed gardening, keeping the yard and her house in tip-top shape. Shirley and Bill had a passion for ballroom dancing - often going to dances three times a week wearing pretty pink dresses and pearl jewelry. Shirley was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids and, for the last 30 years, attended St. Michael's parish in Sioux Falls, SD.

In 1996, Bill and Shirley moved to the west side of Sioux Falls, which allowed them to be closer to Lori and Tim's two little girls- Jody and Cami. Their adjustment to Sioux Falls was easy. Shirley and Bill loved their years in Sioux Falls and shared 60 years together. Bill passed away in 2015, and Shirley stayed in their home until Sept., 2022. Shirley's dog Sammy made her transition to The Inn on Westport a little easier.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two daughters, Lori (Tim) Boldt, Kathy (Steve) Weber, of Sioux Falls; granddaughters, Jody (Eric) Davis of Silverthorne, Colorado, Cami (Cole) Scott of Elkhorn, Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Stadtfeld of Sioux Falls.

Even with the progression of dementia, Shirley's Catholic faith was very important to her, and she knew she needed to attend church every Sunday. She was preceded in death by her parents: Angelo and Agatha Quinn, her husband, Bill, special niece – Pam Quinn Nichols, nephew David Quinn, and five brothers – Edwin, Loren, Charles, Vern, and Wilfred.
