Starlyn "Star" Messler, 78 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice House.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on April 30, 2025, at the Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street.

Starlyn Kaye Sorensen, daughter of Leland and Fern (Jensen) Sorensen, was born on November 17, 1946, in Viborg, SD. She grew up there and received her education at the Viborg Public High School before enrolling in Southeast Vo Tech for horticulture. She lived in Viborg, Beresford, and then came to Sioux Falls in 1990.

Starlyn worked at Hutchinson Technology, Connections Casino, and Westwinds Casino. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Beresford and kept busy doing her dots, gardening, reading and spending time with her cat Sophie.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children Angela Andrews and her husband Allen, Beresford, SD, Lisa Cummings, Peoria, AZ, David Heglin, Spokane, WA; Shannon Sundstrom and her husband Seth, Harrisburg, SD; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Starlyn was preceded in death by her parents.
