Obituary

Stephen "Steve" Anthony Schuknecht passed away peacefully after a brief illness at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD with his loving family by his side.

Visitation with the family present will be from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Miller Funeral Home Downtown, 507 South Main Avenue.

Steve was born January 15, 1960, at Avera McKennan Hospital to Charles and Marianne (Finegan) Schuknecht. He was the third of seven children born into this union.

Steve was a proud and true "North Ender" literally living in the shadows of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph for over half his life. He attended Saint Joseph Cathedral Grade School and Jr. High and graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1978. Growing up in the "North End" not only provided him with countless friends but this is also where he met his wife and soulmate, Tami Bruflat. They were united in marriage on August 27, 1994 at First Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. To this union their daughter Katie Ann was born, joining her older siblings T.J. and Christa.

Steve was known to assist many of his elderly friends providing lawn care, snow removal, and many other chores when needed. He enjoyed getting involved in Sioux Falls local government elections assisting candidates with the petition process; knocking on doors; and delivering yard signs throughout the city. He especially enjoyed celebrating in many successful elections of those whom he supported.

Steve was employed for over 30 years with NABISCO Brands retiring in 2020. Upon his retirement, he continued to work part-time for the City of Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department, a job that he truly enjoyed.

Steve was proud of his family, extended family, and many friends. He especially enjoyed hosting summer cookouts at his home. These events were usually followed by hours of conversations about everything and anything. Steve was also an avid fan of The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, So these festivities would not have been complete without his two favorite groups playing in the background. Steve easily made friends and enjoyed the company and friendship of so many. He would do most anything for a friend or stranger.

Steve is survived by his wife Tami; daughter Katie; stepdaughter Christa (DJ) Pearson and their children Synessa, Keon, Ezlynn; siblings Mary (Dick) Hublou, Ann Munce, Bob (Ellina) Schuknecht, all from Sioux Falls, SD; Laura (Pat) Gottlob, Salem, SD, Stephanie Schuknecht, South Shore, SD, and Kolton Timothy. He is also survived by his father-in-law Robert Bahl, Austin, MN; sister-in-law Rhonda (Kevin) Miller, Lakeville, MN; brother-in-law Peter Bahl, Falcon Heights, MN; many nieces and nephews; and his canine companion Trix.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Marianne Schuknecht; brother Daniel Schuknecht; stepson Timothy James (T.J) Bruflat; mother-in-law Jeanette Bahl; and brother-in-law Bill Munce.

Steve's charm and gentle kindness will be missed by all.
