Obituary

Steven "Buzz" Shumaker passed away of natural causes on Sunday, February 9, 2025, in Sioux Falls, SD in a loving home.

Steve was born on August 14, 1959, in Sioux Falls, SD to Leo and Barbara (Brakke) Shumaker. He attended Sioux Falls public schools and spent his entire life working various jobs. His first job responsibilities were delivering the Argus Leader and sacking groceries at Sunshine Foods. Steve spent some time working for Lewis Drug and Marso's Property but he always enjoyed working with his hands which led him to jobs with Ray Haugan Masonry, Kevin Jensen Masonry, A & M Landscaping, Pro Tree, and Shumaker Flooring where he loved working with his son, Blake.

On April 20, 1985, Steve was united in marriage to Geraldyne Lueth in Sioux Falls. They purchased their first home which had no garage so Steve along with friends and family built a garage behind the house. His first major project outside of work which turned out amazing! Steve and Geri became parents with the birth of Blake on September 13, 1987 and treasured watching him grow into a wonderful young man. The couple later divorced after nine years.

Fast pitch softball, fishing, hunting, playing pool, golfing, bowling, camping, watching football and playing cards were the things that Steve enjoyed. He loved to hunt and fish with Blake and many friends as well as drink a beer while telling stories of his adventures. Softball was one of the first competitive sports he played which began with playing catch with his dad in the yard and with his many cousins on his grandparent's farm in Humboldt, SD. "Buzz" continued playing fast pitch softball into his 50's competing with his son and against his nephews and brother-in-law.

Grateful for having shared in Steve's life are his son, Blake, and his mother, Geraldyne; Mother, Barbara Shumaker; sisters, Lori (Kevin) Warne and Kathy Shumaker all of Sioux Falls, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his dad, Leo Shumaker; grandparents, and  uncles and aunts.

Funeral Services will be held at noon on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Ave. in Sioux Falls, SD.
