Obituary

Sylvia Yvonne Ross-Landfair, age 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 18, 2025 at her home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Family will be present for visitation from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Friday, July 25, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel (507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls, SD) with family sharing at 5:30 pm.

Sylvia was born on September 6, 1960, in Caruthersville, Missouri, to Sylvester and Freddie Mae. During her later childhood years, Sylvia relocated to Chicago, Illinois, where she continued to grow and began building a life of her own. She completed cosmetology school and shared her talents with family and friends. Sylvia also embarked on a long career in retail and management, spending over 17 years as the controller and assistant manager for Fairway Grocery Stores. After many years of dedicated service, she retired and relocated to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in 2016.

Sylvia cherished family gatherings, had a soft spot for horror movies (IYKYK), loved secondhand shopping sprees, and enjoyed decorating. She doted on her beloved Yorkie, Kendrick, found peace cruising to the sounds of the O'Jays, and took pride in planting flowers and tending to her garden bed. She especially loved caring for her younger grandchildren. But above all, Sylvia found true joy in sharing meaningful conversations with the people she loved most.

She was deeply loved and will be forever remembered by her children, Raymond (Kayla), Tamara, Deania (Courtney), Marcus (Linnea), Monica, Veronica, and Vanessa. She was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren, Raymond Jr., Nathan, Ilija, Kingston, Kayson, Terrion, Corjay, CaMari, Jomar, Montrell, and Mahlia. She is also survived by her mother, Freddie Mae; her brother, Tracey (Barbara); along with a host of cousins, aunties, and uncles.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Alberta Hurd; her father, Sylvester; and her husband, Charles Dean Landfair.

Sylvia's friendly, caring spirit—paired with her protective and fiery personality—will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
