Tami Heiden, a beloved member of the Hartford, South Dakota community, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was just 58 years old.

In honor of Tami's beautiful life and the love she shared with all of us, a memorial service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hartford, SD. A visitation will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home – Hartford Chapel, located at 600 S. Western Avenue, Hartford, SD. Tami will be lovingly laid to rest in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hartford, SD. Hartford, SD.

Born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1966, Tami Lynn Heiden was welcomed into her forever family when she was adopted at 18 months by her devoted parents, Chester and Shirley (Colwell) Heiden. Tami was raised on the family farm in Hartford, where her spirit flourished, and she graduated from West Central High School in 1985. She pursued her education further with college courses at USD in Vermillion, South Dakota.

From a young age, Tami found joy in a variety of activities, particularly in 4-H events alongside her sister. Her love for music was evident in her participation in the school chorus, band, and theater. An accomplished French Horn player, Tami had the unique opportunity to travel to Europe to hone her musical talents. She cherished time spent with her sister, Shari, at concerts, including a memorable Eagles concert. For over 20 years, she poured her heart into volunteering with the Festival of Bands in Sioux Falls, earning recognition for her remarkable contributions. Tami's vibrant spirit also shone through her involvement with the Sioux Falls Municipal Band and Symphony Orchestra, embodying her profound love for music and community.

Tami's heart was also filled with love for animals. She had a deep affection for horses and adored her cats, as well as her cherished dog, Lizzy Beth. In her quiet moments, she found comfort in reading Westerns and novels by Louis L'Amour, as well as watching Korean Soap Operas on her phone.

Throughout her life, Tami held a variety of jobs, showcasing her versatility and work ethic. She began her career as a telemarketer at a call center before transitioning to a testing proctor at a local center. She later worked at Menards in the building materials department and spent nearly 20 years as the assistant manager at a Gas Barrell gas station, where her nurturing spirit and leadership positively impacted both colleagues and customers. Above all, Tami devoted many years to being a caregiver for her parents, exemplifying her deep compassion and unwavering love for her family.

Tami is lovingly remembered by her sister, Shari (Steve) Heiden of Edgerton, MN, and her treasured nephew, Caleb Heiden. She is also survived by her foster brother, Jeff Schroeder, and of course, her devoted dog, Lizzy Beth.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Shirley Heiden, and her beloved nephew, Cody Heiden.
