Teresa Ann Smoot, 77, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at her home in the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church (1936 S. Summit Ave., Sioux Falls) with burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Born on November 30, 1948, Teresa was raised in Aquasco, MD, and graduated from Gwynn Park High School in Brandywine, MD in 1966. Following high school, Teresa married Walter (Dan) Smoot in July 1967, and together they enjoyed raising their family in multiple states over the years, including Maryland, New York, and Virginia, before making South Dakota their permanent home in 1985.

Teresa's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends, especially if that time involved gardening or other outdoor activities where she could get her hands dirty!  If there was yardwork to be completed anywhere (regardless of whose it was), she was the first to show up to help and the last one to leave.  Always up for a bike ride, Teresa could be seen regularly riding her bike all around Sioux Falls, frequently including stops at her favorite two spots in town- Bagel Boy and Culver's.  If the weather was too poor for riding, she was just as happy and determined to walk wherever it was that she was going, insisting that she had no need for a car.

Another of Teresa's passions was volunteering her time with the churches to which she belonged during her lifetime.  Whether it was preparing meals, sewing altar cloths and banners, or helping maintain the interior or exterior of the church, she was devoted to helping the church in any way she could.

Grateful to have shared in her life, are Walter (Dan) Smoot; daughters Deborah McManus and Tracey Smoot Foster (Grant), son Dan Smoot; grandchildren Eric Hartman, Mason McManus, Rachael Smoot, Michael Smoot, Brianna Smoot, Paul Smoot, Conrad Smoot and Lillian Foster; as well as two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
