Thomas Joseph Gallagher, known affectionately as Tom to his friends and family, passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2025, in Shakopee, MN, just shy of his 74th birthday. Born on February 28, 1951, to Joseph and Agnes Gallagher in Sioux Falls, SD, Tom's bright spirit and quick wit were a joy to all who knew him.

Tom graduated from O'Gorman High School, where he was known for his sharp intellect and playful demeanor. He frequently retold stories of his favorite high school memories with a sparkle in his eye and a playful smile on his face. Tom met his wife Linda during their senior year, and they were married on February 19, 1971.

He carried his love for learning to South Dakota State University, where he studied computer engineering. Tom's commitment to his country was evident through his service with the South Dakota Air National Guard, where he served with honor and dedication for 16 years.

Tom's passion for nurturing the potential in others shone brightly through his involvement with Junior Achievement, where he inspired young minds to embrace their entrepreneurial spirits. Tom also dedicated many years as a Scout Master in Cub Scouts and as an Assistant Scout Master in Boy Scouts, guiding young scouts through adventures and life lessons that many would cherish into their adulthood. Tom was also an enthusiastic coach for his children's sports teams.

Outside of his work and community service, Tom was an avid outdoorsman. He found peace and solitude in hunting and fishing, often sharing these moments with his friends and family. Tom's interest in Civil War history was more than a pastime; it was a journey through the past that he relished. In addition, Tom was a skilled brewer of beer, a hobby that combined his scientific mind with his creative spirit. His homemade brews were a highlight at family gatherings.

Those who knew Tom will remember him as a quick-witted man who brought laughter to every occasion. His humor was a gift that he freely shared, bringing light to even the most challenging times.

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Linda Gallagher; his son, John (Michelle) Gallagher; his daughter, Beth (Bill) Dumke; his sister, Judy Hardgrove; his brother, George Gallagher; his sister Colleen Clark; his sister Teresa Pischke; his sister Cindy Olson and many nieces and nephews. Each of them will carry forward his legacy of love, laughter, and wisdom.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Agnes Gallagher; his brother, Richard Gallagher; his brother, Joseph Gallagher Jr.; his sister, Mary Curley; his brother, Patrick Gallagher; and his sister, Susan Gallagher.

The family invites you to celebrate Tom's life on Wednesday, March 5th, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave, from 5-7 pm. A mass with Christian burial will take place on Thursday, March 6th, at 10:30 am at St. Joseph's Cathedral. Luncheon will immediately follow mass in the parish hall, then burial at St. Michael's Cemetery. Tom Gallagher will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire laughter, intelligence, and creativity in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
