There are those who shine so brightly that their light leaves a lasting impression on the lives of everyone they touch. Todd Albrecht was one of those people. Born on April 1, 1965, to Bob and LaVonne Albrecht, Todd's radiant smile could brighten any room, a gift he shared generously from the very start. As he grew, his playful mischief, infectious giggles, and sharp wit became the essence of his vibrant spirit. Todd lived his 59 years with unmatched energy, placing love and friendship at the heart of everything he did. Todd died unexpectedly on December 31, 2024.

Todd graduated from Pine Island High School in 1983, where he excelled in athletics, embodying the spirit of teamwork and camaraderie. Whether he was playing back up to his childhood friend, Jeff Lerum or the quarterback throwing a perfect touchdown pass to his lifelong friend and brother Jim Finstuen, or the point guard executing a quick dish to his main target, Mark Stevens, Todd embraced every moment on the field and court. Sports provided an outlet for him, a chance to rise above life's challenges and to be his best self. For the tight-knit Pine Island community, the early 1980s sports scene was a source of pride and joy, and Todd was at the heart of it all.

After high school, Todd's love for sports continued with a year of football at Golden Valley Lutheran College before the school closed its doors. In 1984, he took a new path, enlisting in the United States Army. During his six years of service, Todd was stationed in South Korea for four years as a telecommunications specialist, demonstrating his resilience and dedication. His time in the military not only honed his discipline but also instilled in him a lifelong appreciation for service and adventure.

An avid outdoorsman, Todd found solace and joy in hunting and fishing. Whether trekking to Montana to join his cousin and hunting guide Brad Griebenow or heading north to Minnesota to hunt with his friend Kyle House Anderson, the great outdoors was Todd's sanctuary. He cherished these moments of connection with nature and with those he held dear.

Eventually, Todd settled in Northwestern Iowa with his wife Beth, where he embraced his most cherished role: fatherhood. Todd took immense pride in raising his three children, Aaron, Alyssa, and Aszhia. He poured his heart into his children, sharing his passions and creating countless memories through activities like working out, hunting, and playing sports. During those years, Todd found joy in coaching youth softball, basketball, and volleyball, and serving as a weight room advisor. He relished mentoring the young and inspiring them to achieve their best.

Todd spent most of his career at Sioux Falls Two Way Radio in Sioux Falls. Using the skills he honed during his military years, Todd became an instrumental part of the team, serving as their Service and Safety Manager and eventually rising to the role of General Manager. His dedication and leadership left a lasting impact on his colleagues and the organization.

In December 2018, Todd married the love of his life, Michelle Lachner, and with her gained another daughter, Haley, and son-in-law, Aaron Sherman. The two settled in Sioux Falls.

Todd lived a life of passion, love, and laughter. His legacy is one of enduring friendship, cherished family moments, and a deep appreciation for life's adventures. Though his journey was marked by struggles that only those closest to him fully understood, his memory will forever remain a beacon of the warmth and joy he brought to the world. Todd's light will never dim in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know and love him.

Todd is survived by his son, Aaron (Emilie) Albrecht, and their children, Kellyn, Landrey, Dahlia, Liam, Elliott, Bennett, and Rohan; his daughter, Alyssa (Joel) TerWee, and their children, Brooks and Anderson; and his daughter, Aszhia Albrecht. He is also survived by his three sisters, Joyce Christensen, Dawn (Todd) Amato, and Deb (Kevin) Newman, as well as nieces, Sarah Amato and Kaitlyn (Tyler) Henderson and nephews, Ryan (Sarah) Amato and Matthew (Madeline) Newman and several great nieces and nephews.

Todd was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Mike Christensen, and his nephew, Tony Amato.

Visitation will be held at Miller Southside Chapel at 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls, from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7th. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8th at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.
