Virgil D. Anderson, 87, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2025, in Sioux Falls, SD at Avera McKennan Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home, Southside location, at 10:30am with a luncheon to follow onsite.

Virgil was born on May 4,1938 to Virtus and Eva (Hardies) Anderson, Gary, SD.

Virgil attended school in Clear Lake, SD and graduated in 1956.  He then went on to South Dakota State University and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Industrial Arts. He was a member of the Army ROTC while attending SDSU and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, Officers Reserve Corp. He attended Artillery Officers school at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and was assigned to the SD Army National Guard where he served out his commitment.

On July 1,1961 Virgil married Lavonne Siegfried at the First Baptist Church in Watertown, SD.  They were blessed with two sons, Gregory & Bradley. Virgil taught high school with his last position in education to be at Clear Lake High School. He started his career with Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Des Moines, IA as a fieldman in Watertown in 1963 before moving to Aberdeen, SD where Lavonne attended Northern State College. They returned to Watertown in 1970 where they resided until 1984 with a move to Sioux Falls, SD. Virgil continued with FMH until his retirement in 1996 as a state supervisor after 30 years of service.

Virgil enjoyed many memorable times with his sons, including pheasant hunting around Winner, SD and walleye fishing at the Missouri river.  He also enjoyed time as a volunteer baseball coach for his sons during their Little League and Senior League baseball days.  He was one of the founders of Little League baseball in Watertown, SD when it originated in 1973.  Lavonne and Virgil attended every game for their sons, which were numerous, to include baseball, basketball and football throughout their high school careers.

They were blessed to travel and experience many sights both domestically and internationally. They also enjoyed several cruises and river cruises in Europe. The most enjoyable times were always spent with family and grandchildren when they stayed yearly at Vistana Resort in Orlando, FL, enjoying countless hours at Disney and Sea World. Family and grandchildren were always the focus of their lives.

Virgil was a member of First Baptist Church and past member of Sertoma club in Sioux Falls.

Blessed to have shared his life are his wife, Lavonne, son Greg (Vicki) Anderson, son Brad Anderson and fiancée (Megan) of Sioux Falls SD. Grandchildren Abby Taylor (Ray Myers), Courtney Anderson (fiancé Chris Martinez), Max Anderson, Jake Anderson and Luke (Maisy) Anderson. Great-grandson, Wyatt Taylor Myers. Step grandchildren Danielle Fenenga and Katie Laney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virtus & Eva Anderson.
