William "Bill" Johnston was born on November 11, 1947, in Mitchell, SD, to Patrick and Gertrude (Weber) Johnston. Bill passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. He was 77.

Growing up, Bill lived on a farm north of Emery, SD. He graduated from Emery High School in 1967 and then joined the Army National Guard, being discharged in 1973. Bill worked for a local farmer until 1983, when he moved to Sioux Falls. He worked at Business Aviation until 2008, and that same year began working for Menard's, retiring a decade later in 2018. In retirement, Bill was a resident of the Good Samaritan Society Nursing home in Canton, SD, whose staff and residents he considered his family.

He enjoyed activities such as golf, softball, and bowling, and he was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings.

Bill was a member of Risen Savior Catholic Church in Brandon, SD, until he moved to Sioux Falls in 2019, when he became a parishioner at St. Michael Parish.

Bill is survived by his brother, Gene (Barbara) Johnston, Alexandria, SD; his sisters, Betty (Alan) Mellor, Ocala, FL, Joan (Ronald) Dunn, Sioux Falls, SD, and Marcia (Dennis) Maiers, Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Gertrude Johnston; brothers, James and Larry Johnston; his nephews, Terry Sorenson and Kurt Mee; and his niece, Julie Mericle.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Monday, April 28, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1600 S. Marion Road in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.

Interment will be held at 1:30pm Monday at the St. Martin Catholic Cemetery, Emery, SD.
