In Loving Memory of Zane Bryan Hakeman

Zane Bryan Hakeman was born on August 2, 2026, at 5:21 a.m., weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces. Though he entered this world without a heartbeat, he was created so perfectly and was already safely in the arms of Jesus.

From the very beginning, Zane was surrounded by love, anticipation, and excitement. He is the cherished son of Bryan and Rebekah Hakeman, and the dearly loved baby brother of Zoey and Lily. His name, Zane, means "gift from God," and that is exactly what he has been to our family. Though his time on earth was brief, his life touched the hearts of all who loved him.

Even before he was born, Zane made sure everyone knew he was there. He kept Mom on her toes with kicks to her bladder, moved whenever Dad spoke, and hiccupped through ultrasounds, making it difficult to capture the perfect picture. He would wiggle and rotate whenever his sisters tried to find a comfortable spot on Mom's lap, and he seemed to especially enjoy listening as Zoey and Lily sang songs and read books to their "baby brudder".

We dreamed of the life we would share with Zane. We imagined his big sisters showering him with love and care. We imagined watching him explore the world alongside his cousins - getting into dirt, bugs, and all kinds of adventures. We pictured him becoming Papa's newest biggest fan, always asking when he could go to Grandma Sue's house, and requesting ice cream dates when Grandma Lois visited. While we were not given the opportunity to make these memories with him, we hold tightly to the promise that he will never know pain, hardship, or suffering. Because of our Savior, we find comfort in knowing that Zane's first moments were spent in the perfect peace of heaven.

Zane was welcomed into heaven by his paternal great-grandparents, Robert "Bob" Hakeman and Merle Andringa, and by his maternal great-grandparents, Henry & Deana Fluit Jr., and Angeline den Hoed.

Though we never heard his cry or watched him grow, Zane will forever be a beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and precious gift from God. His life, though measured only in moments, has left an everlasting imprint on our hearts. We will forever treasure the gift of knowing him, carrying him, and loving him.

"For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your words are wonderful, I know that full well."  –  Psalm 139:13-14

Visitation will be held from12:00 - 2:00 pm, Monday, August 10, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Southside Chapel (7400 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls). Zane will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery (2001 S. Cliff Ave., Sioux Falls) following the visitation.
