Zettie B Harris-Smith, age 70, of Sioux Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13th, 2026, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.

A visitation, with family present to greet friends, will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 23rd, 2026, at the Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel (7400 S Minnesota Ave). A funeral service will take place at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at the same location (Miller Southside Chapel).

Zettie B Harris-Smith, 70, was born on March 19, 1955, in Kilmichael, Mississippi, to Samuel and Zettie (Knox) Harris. From an early age, Zettie learned the value of love, responsibility, and hard work while helping care for her siblings and attending school in the Kilmichael School District. It was during her childhood that she discovered her lifelong passion for flowers and gardening — a gift she would nurture and perfect throughout her life.

As a young woman, Zettie moved to Chicago, where she worked for years at Sweetheart Cup Company. Chicago was also where fate brought her together with Jerome Smith, the man who would become her devoted husband and best friend. They were united in marriage on July 12, 2005, beginning a beautiful journey of love and partnership. In 2009, they made their home in Sioux Falls, where they continued building a life filled with laughter, family, and cherished memories.

Zettie had a remarkable green thumb and an even more remarkable heart. Her gardens flourished under her careful attention, producing vibrant flowers and vegetables that she joyfully shared with family and friends. She didn't just grow plants — she cultivated memories. If someone was unsure of what to do in the garden, Zettie was right there, ready to guide them with patience and wisdom.

She loved gathering with friends and family for lively games of cards, especially spirited rounds of spades. Fishing trips with Jerome were another treasured pastime — though she happily left baiting the hook and handling the fish to him. Those small, laughter-filled moments were among the many ways she showed her playful spirit.

Above all, Zettie treasured her role as "Grandma." Being a full-time grandmother was one of her greatest blessings. She poured unconditional love, time, and attention into her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating bonds that will last forever. Her home was a place of warmth, guidance, and unwavering support.

A woman of deep and steadfast faith, Zettie was actively in church, and stood firm in her beliefs. Her faith shaped her life, strengthened her family, and anchored her through every season.

Zettie leaves, to cherish her memory, her loving husband of over 20 years, Jerome Smith; her daughter, Samantha Harris; her son, Thomas (Krystal) Harris; her brothers, Charles (Tammy) Harris, Lee Chester (Annette) Harris, and Samuel Wayne (LaFrita) Harris; her sisters, Annie Harris, Rachael Harris, Margie Ann Dickerson, Patricia Dunn, and Francis Forrest; her cherished grandchildren, Shyyne, Shaheem, Jermaine, Jesse, Ja'Quinton, Thomas Jr., and Tyrah; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Devin, Maurice, Chase, and Kimonii.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Tommy Link Harris, Donald Harris, Calvin Harris, Jean Trotter, Irea Jean Allen, and Ronald Harris; and her precious grandson, Jerimyah Harris.

Zettie's life was a testament to nurturing love — in her garden, in her family, and in her faith. The seeds she planted in the hearts of those who knew her will continue to bloom for generations to come.
