Rupa Giri, age 78, passed way peacefully on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Avera Heart Hospital. In accordance to Hindu ritual, she was cremated on the 15th of December in Sioux Falls.

Rupa was born on January 2, 1934 in Solma, Khotang, a very remote village in Nepal. She moved to Jhapa, Nepal in 1972; Bangkok, Thailand in 1995; Toronto, Canada in 2000; and Sioux Falls, USA in 2003. Rupa was a simple, loving and caring "Ama" (mother) or "Hajurma" (grand-mother) to everyone who knew her in Nepal, Thailand, Canada, and South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared Rupa's life are: her husband of 66 years; Four children and their spouses- Dipa (Shankar), Bastipur, Nepal, Chandra (Tejaswi), Sioux Falls, SD. USA; Ranjana (Gopi); Kathmandu, Nepal; , and Dipendra (Subita), Sioux Falls, SD, USA; 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
