Jeanne was born October 2, 1943 in Scotland, South Dakota to Reverend and Mrs. Andrew Meyer.
She grew up in Scotland and Armour, South Dakota and Bismarck, North Dakota. She met her future husband Darrell DeHeer while in high school in Armour. Jeanne graduated from beauty school in Bismarck in 1961. Darrell and Jeanne married in 1962 and have two daughters, Amy and Leslie. They lived in Mission, South Dakota for 10 years and in 1972 moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota. Most recently the couple lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Jeanne owned and operated her own beauty shop for 17 years. She was involved in the Miss South Dakota beauty pageant and chaperoned Miss South Dakota to Atlantic City, New Jersey. Jeanne was a member of PEO and an active member of her church, singing in the choir for many years. Jeanne and her two daughters performed frequently as a singing trio. She was a talented artist, musician and most importantly, mom. Jeanne and Darrell enjoyed many close friendships and loved to travel. She loved spending time with her daughters and her four grandchildren; they were the light of her life.
Jeanne was diagnosed with Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency Disease in 1993 and participated in research studies at both the National Institute of Health in Baltimore, Maryland and at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She established the South Dakota Alpha-1 Support Group and was instrumental in the education and support of Alpha-1's throughout the state of South Dakota. In January of this year, Jeanne underwent a double lung transplant at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota and spent three months at the Gift of Life Transplant House recovering.
