Obituary

Mark D. Carlson, resident of Sioux Falls, SD, died February 23, 2008, in Sioux Falls. He was 58.   Mark Douglas Carlson was born September 11, 1949, to Harry and Vera (Zimmer) Carlson, in Sioux Falls, SD. He attended Sioux Falls public schools. Following his graduation from high school, Mark attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, as well as school in Boulder Colorado where he majored in art. Mark worked for his parents' business, Carlson Distributing, for a number of years in promotions. Following the sale of the family business, Mark became a self-investor.   Mark loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He always looked forward to pheasant and duck hunting in the fall, as well as deer and antelope hunting in South Dakota and Wyoming. For many years, he went on sporting trips ranging from Alaska to Central and South America. Mark also enjoyed working as a hunting and fishing guide in distant South Dakota.   A fervent traveler, Mark traveled extensively throughout the United States. Many of his travels included deep sea fishing in the Atlantic and Caribbean. He was a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited. Mark's outgoing personality and good sense of humor will be treasured always.   Grateful for having shared his life is his sister, Barbara and her husband, Joe, residing in Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.   Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, at Miller Funeral Home, 13th and Main Avenue, with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at 10:00 Tuesday.
