David W. Fields, 66, passed away at Avera Hospital on January 1, 2021 of COVID-19.  David was born November 10 ^th , 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas.  He graduated from Washington High School and The University of Kansas where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.  David married his high school sweetheart, Carol Yarnevich on September 25, 1976.  Immediately following college, Dave started his successful career in management with the J. C. Penney Corporation.  His career with Penney's included positions at the store level as well as on the District and Regional Staffs in:  Topeka, Ks; Kansas City; Indianapolis; Chicago; Somerset, KY; Leominster, MA and Sioux Falls, SD.  Dave retired 8 years ago after serving almost 38 years with the company.

Dave enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and gardening but by far he got the most joy in life spending time with his much loved children and grandchildren.   Survivors include his wife, Carol and son Christopher, both of Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Katie (Brad) Wilkinson, Olathe, KS; grandchildren Caydence and Connor Fields of Sioux Falls, SD and Harper and Sophie Wilkinson of Olathe, KS.   David's surviving siblings include:  Tom Fields, Janie (Chris ) Gaunce,  Susie Phalen, and Kate (Pat Murphy) Fields all of Kansas City as well as brother – in – law George (Margaret) Yarnevich of Salina KS, and sister-in-law Anne Yarnevich (Bud Mackey) of Fairway KS, and numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and cousins.
