Esther V.
Jackson
Oct 6, 1918 — Oct 3, 2020
Sioux Falls
Esther Verna Jackson. Born October 6, 1918 to Ben and Tillie (Klock) Peters in Chancellor, SD. She passed peacefully in her sleep at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD on October 3, 2020.
Esther grew up in Chancellor, SD with her sisters Christina, Hermina (Minnie), and Mable. She graduated from Chancellor High School. From there she would go on to attend Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls for one year and then move to Brookings, SD for four years. In Brookings she worked for the State Extension Services. Moving closer to home, she was employed for P.P. Wermerskershon and Investors Syndicate and then the Kirby Law Offices.
Esther was united in marriage to Gordon Jackson in Sioux Falls on May 22, 1952. The couple was blessed with two children, Vickie and Terry. The couple raised their children on Gordon's family farm just south of Crooks, SD. The farm provided opportunities for Esther to maintain a wonderful garden and grow beautiful flowers and plants. Before Gordon retired from farming, she helped out in the fields cutting alfalfa and driving the tractor. On Sundays they drove to town to attend Central Baptist Church (now Central Church). She enjoyed spending time at church and sang in the choir, helped in the nursery and taught Sunday School.
Those left to cherish the memory of Esther are: son-in-law, Roby (Barb) Porter; three grandchildren, Josh (Christie) Porter of Reno, NV, Jenny (Nic) Stevens of Sioux Falls, and Jacque Porter of Sioux Falls; six great grandchildren, Gabriel Stevens, Thomas Stevens, Victoria Newland, Tristan Newland, Kerrigan Porter and Lucas Porter, and many nieces and nephews.
