Obituary

Gerald Lotton, Sioux Falls, SD, died May 19, 2020, in Sioux Falls. He was 73.

Gerald "Gerry" Lotton was born September 2, 1946, in Chicago, IL, to Iwan and Anastasia (Kella) Lotton. He was raised in Chicago and attended school there.

On June 25, 1966, he was united in marriage to Sheila Towns at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Chicago where Gerry completed his formal education, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering from the Chicago Institute of Technology in 1969. After working as an architect in Chicago, the family moved to Tea, SD in 1972. In 1975, they moved to Sioux Falls. Gerry worked at Spitznagel Architects for ten years before becoming self-employed.

Gerry enjoyed NASCAR and Indy 500 racing. A Renaissance man, he also enjoyed history, science, and loud festive nights with his family. Gerry liked return visits to his hometown of Chicago but also cherished his trips to the Black Hills, an area that he grew to adopt as his own. Above all, he loved spending time with his family. Gerry was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, where he had served as a lector.

Warm, generous, eccentric and larger-than-life, Gerry 's memory will be forever treasured.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Sheila Lotton; daughter, Megan Koch (Andy); sons, Jonathan Lotton (Amanda), Aaron Lotton (Carey), and Benjamin Lotton; thirteen grandchildren; and his brother, Donald Lotton (Linda). He was preceded in death by his parents, Iwan and Anastasia.

A private family funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Cathedral, with interment at St. Michael Cemetery.
