Gregory Wayne
Trumbull
Feb 26, 1958 — Oct 28, 2019
Sioux Falls
Gregory Trumbull, 61, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Monday, October 28, 2019 at the VA Regional Medical Center in Sioux Falls of Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease.
Gregory Wayne Trumbull was born February 26, 1958 in Sioux Falls, SD to Martin and Marilyn (McKenney) Trumbull. He grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1976. From 1978 to 1981, he served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base outside of Rapid City, SD. Greg later served in the South Dakota Air National Guard. He retired after 20 years of service.
On September 25, 1981, he was united in marriage with his life partner and best friend ZoAnn Oaks in Sioux Falls. After finishing his active duty requirements for the US Air Force, Greg settled his family in Sioux Falls. He worked a variety of jobs to support his growing family and spent some of those years at the Minnehaha County Sheriff's office, School Bus Inc., and Hy-Vee. Upon graduating from Augustana College in 1992, Greg worked for various HVAC/plumbing companies including Win Companies of Sioux Falls and Goodin Inc, until his retirement in 2014.
Greg was known for his kind and gentle spirit, his mile-wide smile, his infectious laugh, and his love for everyone. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and could be found watching or listening to the games whenever the Twins played. He also was an enthusiastic cyclist, riding thousands of miles across southeast South Dakota every year. In his later years, Greg enjoyed sitting outside watching nature at work, the birds singing in the trees and squirrels busy at tasks, with his dog by his side, as they watched the world go by.
The most important thing to Greg was his family. His love for them was deep and that love was etched in the time he spent with them. He learned to coach soccer, played baseball, encouraged his sons in chasing after things that interested them, and spent endless hours playing "name that tune". He loved children and always made time for them, encouraging them to use their imaginations, teaching them things like how to build forts, and sometimes, getting into mischief.
Greg loved the Lord and shared that love with others. He was often found sitting at his dining room table, reading the Word. He enjoyed talking about spiritual things and was always open to a conversation about how the Lord was at work in his life and in the lives around him.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, ZoAnn, of Sioux Falls; his five sons, Trevor Trumbull, Nich (wife Bobbi, child Walter) Trumbull, Elliott Trumbull, Bryce (significant other De-Ondra Holloway, children Treavor, Mason, Olivia) Trumbull, Kiefer (fiancée Nikki Stotesbery, baby) Trumbull, all of Sioux Falls SD; and his sisters, Sherry (Joe) Pace of Forest City, IA, Pam (Dan) Alexander of Sioux Falls, SD, Teresa (Mark) Anderson of Brandon, SD and sister-in-law Carol Trumbull of Sioux Falls SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Marty; and a sister, Wendy.
Memorial services will begin 1:30 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Worthing Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Friday at Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel.
