Obituary

Jan McCoy, age 68 of Sioux Falls, SD, died peacefully with her husband Tom, by her side on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

A celebration of life, with family present, will take place from 1:00 - 3:00 pm on Saturday, January 24th, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Westside Chapel (6200 W. 41st St.) in Sioux Falls. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm.

Jan was born on September 12, 1957, to Patrick and Lavalle (Gau) Weber. She grew up in Dimock, SD, and attended public schools in Dimock and Parkston. Jan graduated as Salutatorian of the class of 1975 at Parkston High School.  She then attended Anoka Technical College in Anoka, MN and attained her certificate of Surgical Technology Assistant.

Jan worked in a variety of medical professions, which reflected her nature to help others in her areas of expertise.

She courageously battled breast cancer starting in 1996 and became a 30-year cancer survivor.

Jan married the love of her life, Tom McCoy, on June 24, 2000. Tom was Jan's soul mate. They lived their life in complete companionship and together enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time together. Jan also loved canning and knitting.

Next to Tom, family was everything to Jan. She was a significant caretaker of her parents and Tom's parents. She extended her love and generosity to Tom's daughter Nicole, and all of their nieces and nephews.

Jan became an integral part of the West Whitlock neighborhood. Jan could bait a hook like no other, and she loved sharing her canning creations with the 4pm happy hour crowd.

Jan loved sharing her special recipes with her sisters, nieces, and grandnieces for the annual girl's weekend. Jan was instrumental in teaching many friends and family members the art of canning using her cooking expertise.

Jan is survived by her loving husband, Tom; her stepdaughter, Nicole (Earl) Siemonsma, and grandchildren Easton and Nariah; brother, Ron Weber; sisters, Linda Lynch and Deb Flanders; sisters-in-law, Cathy Weber and Patti McCoy; brothers-in-law, Scott (Brenda) McCoy and Jim McCoy; and many nieces and nephews.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Patrick and Lavalle Weber; brother, Gary Weber; father-in-law, Dave McCoy; mother-in-law, Barb McCoy; and brother-in-law, Mark McCoy.
