Roger D.
Kelly
Feb 28, 1950 — Feb 6, 2020
Tea
Roger Kelly, 69, of Tea, SD, passed away February 6, 2020, at home.
Roger Dale Kelly was born on February 28, 1950, in Pierre, SD, to Francis (Scheely) and G.A. (Bud) Kelly of Midland, SD. In addition to Roger, the Kelly family had two other sons: Dell (Dannelle) Kelly, Sioux Falls, SD; Ray (Joanie) Kelly, Tea, SD; three daughters: Angel (deceased); Marie Karnof (Bert Reif), Sioux Falls, SD; and Camille (Mark) Hinrickson, Sioux Falls, SD. Roger referred himself as "the third of three boys."
In 1952, the Kelly family moved to Sioux Falls, SD, and Roger would spend the summers on the grandparent Scheely's farm. Here he learned to milk cows, hunt, enjoying nature and God's creatures: loved snakes, hated spiders, caught his first bullhead, intrigued by grasshoppers, and was greatly fascinated by the dung beetle.
In addition to the Scheely grandparents, the Schofield family helped Roger develop a foundation for living a productive life.
Roger enjoyed riding dirt bikes, collecting guns, mowing the lawn, collecting teapots, fishing, hunting, telling stories and jokes, remodeling homes, construction, and worked most of his life in the sales field.
While married to Barb Mettler, they had two children: Stacy (Andy) Arneson, Baltic, SD; and Joshua David (Kim), Durant, OK. Later he married Jeanine Hagen and together they started fostering kittens but turned to fostering children. They fostered and adopted into their family two sons: brothers Josh and Andrew Miller-Kelly.
Roger has four grandchildren: Shelby Vosburg, Trace Vosburg, Tabitha Arneson, the children of Stacy; and Luke Kelly, the son of Joshua David.
Roger is preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister Angel, and son-in-laws Wayne and Butch.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 South Main Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at Miller Funeral Home with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery near Tea.
