Sharon Schumacher, age 80, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Thursday, January 15th, 2026, at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 5th, 2026, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. A time of cake and coffee will follow the service in the fellowship hall.
Sharon F. Schumacher was born to Norman and Pearl Hynie on July 13, 1945 in Austin, Minnesota, where she was raised and attended school. On January 3, 1962, Sharon was united in marriage to her Austin High School Sweetheart Gary Schumacher. Sharon received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree in 1968 at the School of Practical Nursing in Champaign, IL. Meanwhile, Gary enlisted in the Air Force. They were stationed in various states and Guam.
The couple settled in Sioux Falls, SD in 1978. Sharon worked at Sioux Falls Care Center nursing home, Sioux Valley Hospital. She retired as an "Industrial Nurse" at John Morrell's in 2001. After retirement they traveled to Hawaii, Norway and all over Europe. They loved wintering in Mesa, AZ and being known as Snowbirds.
Sharon enjoyed swimming, reading, playing cribbage, and shopping. She was fond of horses and cats. Sharon shared her love of music with Gary. They attended Wayne Newton, Neil Diamond, Cher, and Shania Twain in concert.
Sharon treasured her only Grandson Jackson, as it showed in her eyes as a special everlasting sparkle. She cherished her Great-Grandchildren Sullivan and Sophia, who lovingly called her GiGi.
Sharon was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, and over the years she appreciated being able to watch the services from home on TV.
Sharon was a strong-willed person, and she was Blessed to become a Breast Cancer Survivor.
Sharon is survived by her children: Kent (Linda) Schumacher, Shawna (Adrian); grandson Jackson (Katie) Schumacher; great-grandchildren Sullivan and Sophia Schumacher; sibling: Sonja (Robert) Brandt. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband Gary, her parents, her sister Jeanette Kotval, and infant brother Charles.
